Phnom Penh, July 24, 2025 — The Ministry of National Defense of Cambodia has issued an official timeline detailing the sequence of events that led to border clashes with Thailand today, amid ongoing tensions along the border region.

The timeline underscores a series of provocative actions by Thai military forces, beginning early this morning.

6:30 a.m. — According to the statement, Thai troops initiated provocative actions by covertly installing barbed wire at the base of Ta Mone Thom Temple, in violation of bilateral agreements designed to maintain peace and stability along the border.

7:04 a.m. — Thai drones were observed flying over Cambodian airspace for approximately two minutes, further increasing regional tension.

8:30 a.m. — Thai forces fired warning shots into the sky, signaling escalating hostility.

8:46 a.m. — The situation intensified when Thai troops opened fire directly on Cambodian forces stationed at Ta Mone Thom Temple. The skirmish soon spread to include Ta Krabei Temple and the Phnom Kmoach area. The conflict expanded further in Preah Vihear province, with reports of Thai military attacks using fighter jets directed toward the Mom Bei area.

8:47 a.m. — In accordance with their right to defend national sovereignty, Cambodian armed forces returned fire, responding to the Thai military’s aggression.

The Ministry emphasized that these actions represent a serious breach of international agreements and norms, with the conflict now directly threatening regional stability. It called on the international community to condemn Thailand's actions and urged Thailand to cease hostilities, withdraw its forces, and adhere to peaceful resolution channels.

Cambodia’s government reiterated its commitment to protecting its sovereignty and maintaining stability in the border region, emphasizing that its forces remain prepared to defend the nation against any further incursions.

The situation remains tense, but Cambodian officials reaffirm their willingness to resolve disputes through diplomatic and legal means, emphasizing that military responses are solely in self-defense.
